The Academy Is... is an emo-pop band, formed in chicago in 2003. The band was originally called "The Academy", but they changed the name to add the "is..." after recieving a cease-and-desist letter from another band called The Academy. Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy helped The Academy Is... get signed to Fueled By Ramen. William Beckett was a prominent person in Bandom, often being associated with people from other bands in the scene (ex- Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship). The Academy Is... toured with groups in Bandom, meaning members of various bands often crossed paths, leading to their prominence in Bandom.
